Previous Work
On This Page: Rosie Hopley and Generalmidi
Below are a selection of case studies of previous projects I have worked on.
Rosie Hopley - Freelance Copywriter

Rosie is an experienced and talented freelance copy writer. She has been professionally involved with the content of many big commercial and government website projects as well as producing copy for other advertising and informational media. She wanted a simple but elegant site that would enhance her carefully crafted copy and promote her abilities to potential clients.
The graphical design on this site was developed with a lot of input from Rosie, and several rounds of tweaking honed in on this final design. The typewriter image and handwritten font choice were decided upon initially and various possible images and font faces were considered before the final design was constructed.

As you might expect, Rosie had already put a lot of thought and skill into crafting her content into a structure that is interesting, easy to navigate and informative. This left me to put together a Content Management System that would allow her to keep the content fresh and relevant without further technical assistance. The system developed (pictured right) allows easy management of information and includes Javascript-powered drag-and-drop lists and a fully functional spell checker.
Generalmidi - DJ and Producer

Website URL: www.generalmidi.co.uk
Generalmidi (aka. Paul Crossman) is a successful and popular breakbeat DJ and producer. His website was developed in conjunction with Phil Rees of Deface Graphics. Phil produced the website designs and layouts as pure graphics and I was tasked with turning them into valid useable XHTML and CSS. I also produced a Content Management System to allow Paul and his management company to update and modify the site contents themselves.
As with many of my clients, Generalmidi's site is hosted on my own servers. The domain name had previously been registered with another provider with whom I negotiated transferal and management of the domain and hosting. Being able to advise on or manage technical issues for my clients has proved very useful. It allows them to receive a fully working website product — that they own — without having to negotiate with several different service providers.

The initial site produced has since been modified several times with the addition of an image gallery, refactoring of some pages and, most recently, the addition of a Flash-based music player (pictured right). This music player is based on an open source project but heavily modified to fit the look and feel of the site and to provide automated playlist generation. In order to make updating the playlist as easy as possible for Paul, I developed a custom system that dynamically builds a playlist based on the files it finds on the server. The mp3 files just need to be uploaded to the server using FTP and the music player will automatically find them and put them in the playlist. It can even find any relevant artwork that has been uploaded and display that while the track is playing.
